Every Form & Grain piece is made from solid, natural American hardwood, either rich walnut or lighter maple. We use no veneer, no stains, and no dyes, so what you see is the real wood and its own grain. Each piece is designed by our founder, Tim Rice, and handcrafted in our Boston workshop.

Yes. Most Form & Grain pieces come in your choice of two solid American hardwoods: walnut, which is darker with a warm, rich grain, or maple, which is lighter and cleaner in tone. You pick the one that suits your space when you order. Both are the same solid wood, just a different character.

Orders are typically processed within 1–2 business days. Delivery times vary by location, but most orders arrive within 3–7 business days. You’ll receive tracking details once your order ships.

Solid hardwood, never veneer. Most of our stands are cut from a single piece of solid walnut or maple, so the grain runs all the way through. There is no particleboard, no laminate, and no thin veneer skin over cheaper material underneath. It is the same honest wood on the surface and below it.

Every piece is designed and handcrafted in the USA, in our Boston workshop. The milling, shaping, sanding, and finishing all happen here, by hand, in small batches. Nothing is mass-produced and nothing is made overseas. When you buy a Form & Grain piece, it was made by a person in Boston, Massachusetts.

The grain varies, and that is by design. Because each piece is cut from natural, solid wood with no stain to even it out, the shade and grain pattern differ slightly from one to the next. Your piece will match the style and proportions in the photos, but the exact character of the wood will be its own.

Each size holds a set number of watches:

• Timestand S: one watch (3 in long, 3 in deep, 3 in tall)
• Timestand M: two watches (5 in long, 3 in deep, 3 in tall)
• Timestand L: four watches (8 in long, 3 in deep, 3 in tall)
• Timestand XL: eight watches (10 in long, 6 in deep, 6 in tall)
• Timestand XXL: twelve watches (14 in long, 9 in deep, 9 in tall)

Watches rest over a broad, angled dowel, and the rests are adjustable, so you can space and angle each one the way you like.

It comes down to how many watches you want to display, with a little room to grow. As a guide: the S suits a single daily watch or a treasured heirloom, the M is right for two watches or a watch plus bracelets, the L (our most popular size) holds a curated collection of four, the XL is for the serious collector with around eight, and the XXL displays a full collection of twelve. When you are between two sizes, size up. Most collectors grow into the larger one.

Yes. Timestands are designed to hold virtually any wristwatch. The watch drapes over a smooth, broad dowel rather than sitting in a fixed cradle, so everything from a slim dress watch to a large diver or a chunky chronograph rests naturally, thick straps and bracelets included. The adjustable rest lets you set the angle that shows each piece best.

Yes. Each Timestand is a solid piece of hardwood with a broad, weighted base, so it stays planted even under heavy steel sports watches and divers. There is no flimsy arm or hollow frame to tip. The watch rests low over the dowel, which keeps the center of gravity down and the whole stand steady.

Yes to both, with one caveat. An Apple Watch or other smartwatch rests over the dowel and displays just like any watch, and bracelets drape over it well, with the M and S sizes especially doubling as bracelet stands. The one thing to note: a Timestand is a display stand, not a charger, so it will not power your smartwatch while it rests there.

Yes. Every Timestand is a standalone piece, so you can start with the size that fits your collection today and add another later as it grows. Some collectors keep a small stand on the nightstand and a larger one on the dresser. If you are unsure, we usually suggest sizing up, since collections tend to grow into the space you give them.

Yes. We offer custom engraving as an add-on, so you can turn a Form & Grain piece into something personal or a one-of-a-kind gift. You add the engraving when you order and tell us the text you would like, and we add it in our Boston workshop before your piece ships.

You can engrave a short, personal message, most often a set of initials, a name, a meaningful date, or a short phrase. Since the space is small, engravings are kept brief, and the exact number of characters that fit depends on the piece. If you have something longer in mind, contact us before ordering and we will confirm what will work.

Custom engraving is a $10 add-on per piece. You add it to your order alongside the item you want engraved, then enter the text you would like. There is no separate setup fee.

Engraving is done in our workshop as part of making your piece, so in most cases it adds little or no extra time to your order. If you are ordering for a specific date and want to be certain, reach out and we will confirm the timing before you buy.

Engraving is available on our Timestand watch stands, which are our bestselling pieces. Look for the engraving option on the product page when you order. If you would like something engraved that does not show the option, contact us, since we can often accommodate custom requests.

Caring for your piece is simple. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth, and for anything more, a slightly damp cloth followed by a dry one is all it needs. Because it is finished with a protective lacquer, avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, and household sprays, which can dull the finish over time. No wax or polish required.

No. Unlike raw or oil-finished wood, your piece is sealed and protected with a durable lacquer finish, so it never needs oiling, waxing, or conditioning. The finish does the work of protecting the wood, so simple cleaning is all it takes to keep it looking its best.

Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from heat sources or damp spots, and it will look its best for years. Solid wood is happiest in a stable, room-temperature spot, away from radiators, vents, and windows that get hours of harsh afternoon sun. A quick dusting now and then is really all the upkeep it needs.

Possibly, and gently. The protective finish is made to hold its clarity and not yellow the way lesser finishes can. The natural wood beneath it may still change and deepen slightly over the years, especially walnut, which is a normal and beautiful part of owning solid hardwood. Keeping it out of long, direct sun helps the tone stay even.

A few simple things. Avoid standing water, harsh chemicals, and abrasive cleaners, since these can mark or dull the finish. Keep it away from prolonged direct heat and sunlight, and take a little care with sharp or heavy objects that could scratch or dent the surface. Treated kindly, your piece is built to last for years.
